Belize’s National Flower – Black Orchid
Size: 12″ x 16″
Not sure how it came out – painting a Belize national flower using Chinese painting technique with a western medium – watercolor; like that melting pot of Belize, consisting of so many people coming from different cultural background..

I did this similar scene in a larger format prior to this one…but it wasn’t so successful…
This one is a bit better…capturing the fogginess of the morning at the moment of sunrise.
I found this cool option in Microsoft Livewriter…couldn’t resist in using it…
This scene is located around Belmopan, Belize, as the map shows….

Tips:
The table is slightly tilted to allow the downward blending of color, creating foliage like texture…
Wet Paper.
Good paper and paints make a big difference; I use 300 lb Arches paper and Sennelier watercolor; same Arches with different weight also produce different result.
Mixed colors recedes more than primary color.
Reduce hard edges; wet on wet helps achieving
