Monochrome watercolor - illustration of fruit and food

These are the illustration for introduction pages I did for the book, Food of the Gods – Eating vegetarian in Belize by Dr. Rosita Arvigo. The final copy of the book will be black and white; I thought it would only make sense for me to do the illustration in monochrome so I can get enough variation of values into my drawings in the first place. I find it a bit challenging to paint fruit in black and white, since the most recognizable feature of a fruit – color is not present. Hence the proportion, the shape and texture must be done well for them to be distinguishable among one another.
