I feel even my works has a lot of abstract elements in it, I still need to base on my realist descipline in order to make it strong.
Abstract art or non representational art all must start with something real; whether it’s the reduction of the real form or just the way how people feel about color. Without a firm ground of realism, it’s nearly impossilbe to make an abstract art to have a strong presence…
So no matterĀ what kind of works I am working on, the realist elements are always applicable: the handling of light and dark value, the difference in saturation to pull out the space, and thorough understanding of the form so as to allow the capability of reduction. That’s what makes painting a good abstraction so hard; everyone can paint abstractly, but not all can make it interesting…..
