I notice a lot of people from my department trying to go large and turn out to create garbage. To me, I feel I must get enough practice on smaller format before I can go to larger painting, otherwise I would have too little to put on my larger paper and end up putting more wasted marks than creating arts…and waste a good paper too.
Doing a large format doesn’t happen overnight. For me, I must be totally confident of what I am doing and map out the way to blow up the size of what I am able to achieve in smaller painting, which means having enough knwoledge to fill out the extra space that I have when going large….and it takes a lot of studies and observation from the subject I am doing.
